This blog is going to be a mix of what I'm up to now, a look back at some of my past favourites, maybe some equipment and technical stuff and whatever else you would like to see...but primarily with a photographic theme.

Art in the landscape

Hi All

This one is something out of the ordinary.

Some time ago I was approached by Victorian artist Anzara Clark and asked to photograph one of her pieces in various locations and environments, and then hang it outside and record its gradual degradation. As I said…not your usual request.

I first met Anzara through the Burnie Arts Council - Paper on Skin wearable art competition (which she has been very successful in). She liked my work and was happy to give me free rein with the artistic side of the shoot.

The first challenge was how to transport the piece…it is quite voluminous and fairly heavy. The ideas I had for some locations meant it needed to be carried some distance and with a model on board there was no room for it in my ute. A trip to the local hardware store sorted it…the biggest plastic tub (with a secure lid) that they had.

I mentioned model…that was the next challenge. My model needed to be tall…a big thank you to Sophie for stepping in on this one.

We got a few strange looks from passers-by as Sophie donned a huge cloak of paper feet and totally wrapped her head in a scarf…but I think the images were worth it.

The degradation series is still a work in process. Despite being in the midst of a Tasmanian winter (totally exposed to the elements), it is holding up surprisingly well.

Until next time…
