This blog is going to be a mix of what I'm up to now, a look back at some of my past favourites, maybe some equipment and technical stuff and whatever else you would like to see...but primarily with a photographic theme.

Still here

Hello All

I hope at this early stage of the year 2023 is treating you ok. The festivities (and the Xmas decorations) are all packed away (or should be).

While I am avoiding landscaping duties due to the heat, I thought I would fill you in on a few of the shoots I have had recently.

I saw in the New Year working for Devonport City Council covering it’s hugely successful Eve in the City event. The place was packed! People from all along the Coast flocked to Devonport to celebrate NYE…and weren’t disappointed (unlike lots of others in the other coastal population centres).

Devonport Cup. Over the years the Devonport Cup has been a pretty unhappy place for me. Not because I’ve lost all my money on a dodgy bet (I don’t gamble), but because of events or circumstances I have found myself in while covering the event for The Advocate.

When I left the paper, I swore I would never go back. One should never say never. I was contracted by Tasracing to cover the colour of the event. I am pleased to announce that on my part it was relatively uneventful…well, almost.

While at the Cup, I got a message from my wife to call home. This immediately sounded a few alarm bells, Michelle never interrupts me while I am on a shoot.

I made the call to a tearful wife…our faithful hound of 12+ years was very unwell. The vet suspected either a stroke or a tumour…the result being he had lost all balance and use of his legs. Michelle chose to bring him home as there was no way she was going to make ‘that decision’ without me there.

We were pretty sure it was going to be time to say goodbye.

However, as at the time of writing this, I am pretty pleased to say that Ernie is still with us. With the help of steroidal medication he is making a steady recovery. We still don’t have an exact diagnosis, but while he is functioning pretty well and is in no pain we are going to enjoy every minute we have left with him.

This is one of the more enjoyable shoots I have done for a while.

Shannon, a professional dancer, contacted me to update his professional headshots and consequently, his dance portfolio. We had great fun, in a variety of locations. It was a pleasure to work with a talented professional who was prepared to do that bit extra (dance jumps on a gravel driveway and the rocky base of Guide Falls) to get the shot.

There is a little update on what I have been up too. I will try to do better with keeping you all posted in 2023…:)

Until next time…be kind to each other.

Cheers
