This blog is going to be a mix of what I'm up to now, a look back at some of my past favourites, maybe some equipment and technical stuff and whatever else you would like to see...but primarily with a photographic theme.

Do you see what I see?

Hi all…

Today’s post is a revisit to a theme I have touched upon before. I have a belief, a theory that we spend a whole lot of time looking at the world and the things within it, but we don’t really see.

There is so much going on around us every day…and we don’t see it. Everything is so familiar that we don’t notice the really cool way that bridge throws a shadow. Or the way the light dances off the silvery leaves of the tree across the road. Or the weird reflections from the office block…but only when the sun is just so.

When we go on holiday it’s different. Everything is new, your surroundings are different…someone turns your eyes on and you actually see.

I’m guilty of it…but, every once in a while, I break out…and it’s usually with the help of a camera.

These Autumn themed shots are from the Scottsdale area. I had an assignment up that way earlier in the week and decided to allow myself extra travel time…just in case. I didn’t go searching, I just made an effort to make sure I was “seeing”. If the job was next week, there is a high likelihood that these scenes just wouldn’t exist. Sometimes your luck is in.

Another great way to “turn your eyes on” is to use something that forces you to slow down. I revisited an old film camera a year or two back and it was amazing how it made me stop and take notice of the things around me. Again, I didn’t go searching, I just opened my eyes. The following shots were all taken along the route I took daily, to and from work…a 5-minute walk.

Until next time…slow down and enjoy the view.
