GWP blogspot

This blog is going to be a mix of what I'm up to now, a look back at some of my past favourites, maybe some equipment and technical stuff and whatever else you would like to see...but primarily with a photographic theme.

Restore and reuse.

This piece of furniture was responsible for a fairly major makeover of my office/studio.

My wife sourced an old school map drawer...I saw its potential as a print drawer...and a studio drawer...so had to have it. I could see with a bit of TLC that it could be a nice piece...I had no idea where in my already small space it was going to fit...but ...oh well.

The first step was to get it home...easy. The next...to get if off the ute...not so easy. It's a heavy bugger. A bit of ingenuity (and brute strength) saw it unloaded into my shed.

The plan was to give her a light rub down and then a spray job. I had previously upcycled an old set of bedside drawers into my desk drawers by giving them a tart-up with metallic grey hammer finish paint and new handles, so it was pretty much a no-brainer to continue the theme. The base was first in line.

Next was masking off the drawer handles and tag holders.

The drawers were painted individually...and then the carcase.

The next bit got tricky...I realised the only way it was going to fit in my office/studio and still leave space to work in was...extend! As you would have seen from my post of April 22, that's exactly what happened. With a bit of imported muscle, the drawers were carried into place and are now an essential part of my work space.

Until next week...
