This blog is going to be a mix of what I'm up to now, a look back at some of my past favourites, maybe some equipment and technical stuff and whatever else you would like to see...but primarily with a photographic theme.

Another one bites the dust

Hi all. Glad you could join me for my first missive of 2019.

This year is one in which I will tick off a couple of items from my bucket list…and you never know, maybe a few more.

I’ve never actually made a list, but two long-held desires have been to put together a book of my own work and to have a solo exhibition. Both are coming to fruition early this year.

My portrait exhibition People of Passion opens at the Burnie Regional Art Gallery on February 8, and the book of the same name (featuring the works from the exhibition) is on its way to me, from the printers, as I am writing this. It’s all pretty exciting. I can’t wait to have a copy in my hands. I imagine it will feel a little similar to the first time I held a test print from the exhibition…there is just something special about holding a physical product…not just an image on a monitor.

In total contrast, the year started off with something that is and old familiar…the Burnie Carnival. (For those of you reading this who are not from the North-West Coast, the Burnie New Year’s Day carnival is a cycling/athletics/woodchopping competition that pre-dates the modern Olympics). In my current role I don’t get to shoot as much sport as I did when with the paper, so it was good to blow the cobwebs off and see if the trigger finger still worked. It also gave me the chance to test out my Canon 100-400 zoom…and I must say I am very happy with it. I used it in conjunction with a borrowed Canon EOS 1Dx mkii…that camera is a beast!
