This blog is going to be a mix of what I'm up to now, a look back at some of my past favourites, maybe some equipment and technical stuff and whatever else you would like to see...but primarily with a photographic theme.

Indulgence

Hi…coming to you today from the relative warmth of Perth, WA. It’s not hot…about 21 degrees…but that is way better than what I hear is pretty ordinary weather back home on the North-West of Tassie.

The main reason for the trip is to get to know our grandson Hudson (and of course to catch up with his parents). Huddo is 10-months old and a little legend. The tyranny of distance has meant we have only met him once before, and that was about eight months ago. A lot changes in that time!

We have really enjoyed discovering his big personality…and his even bigger grin. A huge bonus has been witnessing his first steps…he is a busy boy now and will be a handful once he masters walking (I won’t be surprised if he just goes straight to running).

The weekend just gone saw us take in the gorgeous food, wine and beer of the Margaret River region. Of course we over-indulged…why else do you go there?

I can highly recommend Eagle Bay Brewery, The Brewhouse, Mad Fish winery and Morries (café/restaurant). The Farmer’s Market is great for fresh produce, bread, meats, cheese etc.

And the Margaret River Dairy also has super cheese and icecream.

However, one of the highlights was finding Providore. My wife (Michelle) is a great cook and found herself in a form of heaven…we had never seen (or tasted) such a stunning range of jars and bottles filled with delicious treats…lemon curd, jams, chutneys, relishes, balsamic infusions, vino cotto…the list is endless…and it also had a cellar door with award-winning wines…just exquisite.

Sadly, not all our experiences were as positive. One of the larger wineries was less than welcoming…giving the impression we were not good enough to eat in their restaurant. We were happy to leave their snobbery and patronize a much friendlier establishment.

As luck would have it, The Brewhouse gave Michelle one of the culinary highlights of her trip…a simply stunning cuttlefish dish (and I got to drink an awesome oatmeal stout).
