GWP blogspot

This blog is going to be a mix of what I'm up to now, a look back at some of my past favourites, maybe some equipment and technical stuff and whatever else you would like to see...but primarily with a photographic theme.

Unboxed: BTS

Hi all...following on from last week...I got the bottle out of the box and managed to hold off on sampling the contents long enough to take a few shots. I'll step you through my processes...hope you like the end result.

This is the final set-up.

This is the final set-up.

Camera position, the shower curtain diffuser (F), main light (A) and brand name light (B) are all "borrowed" from the Bottle in the Box set-up.

Speedlight (C) with MagMod grids is aimed at a piece of card (E) positioned to bounce light back through the bottle.

Speedlight (D) is fully zoomed and "snooted" with a couple of pieces of gaff tape to spot some light onto the shoulder and cap of the bottle.

The next images show the individual effect of each light.

Light (B) only. Picking up the branding.

Light (C) only. Lighting the bounce card to send light back through the liquid. The positioning and shape of the card is important to get the light just right.

Light (D) only. To highlight the shoulder of the bottle and give an edge to the cap.

...and the final image.

The power output of each light was individually adjusted (trial and error) to get the balance right. Like last week's image, this has had no Photoshopping. There are refinements that could quite easily improve the shot, but I wanted to demonstrate what can be done in-camera with a relatively inexpensive set-up (no Broncolor in my kit...unfortunately).

Preparations are well underway for The Advocate Gift exhibitions at the Burnie Regional Gallery and Museum. I have my fingers crossed that the handover of the collection will actually happen one day. If things are delayed too much longer there won't be a collection to preserve!

Until next week...
